i'm empty and aching and i don't know why
This morning after dropping Alex off to school, this piece about Simon & Garfunkel’s America came on my car radio, featuring interviews with people about why the song was important to them. The song was released in 1968, and the interviewees who were alive during that time talked about how America was in a state of incredible upheaval, what with the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement, and so much more going on at the time that album came out. I’ve gone to search for America, sings Paul Simon, and you can almost hear him wonder what America is becoming.
It’s 50 years later, and I wonder the same thing.
