this was a good week
This was a good week. Here’s why:
• Our little kitchen garden is starting to produce, which means we had a pretty epic salad this week, featuring homegrown tomatoes, beans and radishes. I’m taking these little joys wherever I can get them.
• Such and honor being on Katie Horwitch’s WANTcast - we talk about grief, resilience and the intersection of joy and activism. Also, a bit of a sneak peek of my upcoming book! Click here to have a listen.
• These photographs by Estonian artist Kylli Sparre of women in motion are mesmerizing.
• Speaking of art, these artists were commissioned to make art depicting what hope looks like, and they’re free to download. I’m thinking I’m going to need one for my bulletin board!
• These paper sculptures are insane.
• When I was a kid, those “flesh-coloured” Crayola crayons used to make me mental. It’s been way too long in the making, but at long last: Crayola has crayons for all of us!
• You know those social-distancing birthday parades everyone is doing? Well, this Elsa sang her signature song in American Sign Language for a little birthday girl. So great.
• And finally, for today’s soundtrack: The NPR Tiny Desk Concert series has moved home for social-distancing reasons — which means that they’re featuring artists in wonderfully intimate spaces. This week, take a look at Alex Isley (the daughter of one of The Isley Brothers!), singing in front of her 3-year-old daughter’s artwork. A beautifully dreamy vibe before a long holiday weekend here in the United States.

On that lovely note, have a wonderful weekend, friends. Stay healthy and safe.
