nablopomo day 5: nacogdoches

"Hello!  Checking in?"

"I am, thanks!  My name is Karen Walrond. W-A-L-R-O-N-D."

"Yes, I see you here.  Welcome to Nacogdoches, Ms. Walrond."

"Thank you!"

"First time here?"

"Yes, it is.  It gets quite pretty here, doesn't it?  The landscape undulates a bit, lots of trees ..."

"Yeah, well, you're not missing much."

"No?"

"Not at all.  You would think this town would revolve around the university, but it doesn't.  It's actually mostly retirees."

"Retirees?  You're kidding!"

"Yeah.  It's a real sleepy town."

"Are you a student?"

"Yup."

"Well, get on it!  What are you doing?  You and your friends, you guys should be turning this into a proper party-college-town!"

"Man, I'm 23 years old, and I'm just not interested.  I'm about as exciting as the retirees."

I laugh.  He laughs.

"Here are your keys, Ms. Walrond.  Again, welcome to Nacogdoches."
