you do what you gotta do

Our street is dark.

It’s been over 15 months since Hurricane Harvey hit our neighbourhood, and of the 13 homes on our street, only 5 of us have returned. The rest of the houses have been razed, or are for sale, or simply remain dormant and boarded up. Before Harvey, our street teemed with life and kids and neighbourly-ness — now, this holiday season, most of our street is dark, with no lights inside the houses, far less Christmas decorations.

For the 5 houses that remain, we’re more focused than ever on bringing good cheer to the street, and I’ve noticed we’ve all gotten VERY serious about Christmas decorations. We all keep adding a bit more to our homes, us included.

Our street might be dark, but those of us who live at our end of the street, we’re making it look like Las Vegas Holidays up in here, by God.
