what if we've been thinking about health all wrong?

One of the most significant shifts in perspective that I had while writing Radiant Rebellion was around health and nutrition. I’m no athlete and often viewed exercise as a complete chore — my routine was sporadic, at best. And while I’ve eaten relatively healthily in recent years, I definitely viewed some foods as “good foods” and others as “bad,” based on sketchy information I’d found on Dr. Google. But for the purposes of this book, I decided to do some deep research, so I called my friend Dr. Reeta Achari.

Dr. Reeta is a board-certified neurologist specializing in nutritional neurology, and she did a complete work-up on me as part of my research. But it was what she said about how to approach food that really blew my mind.

“People always say that food is medicine, but I don’t think that’s true. In traditional Ayurvedic medicine, we don’t focus on sickness. Ayurveda is about wellness, and how you nourish the wellness we all have inside of us. When we think of food, we should consider it nourishment. It’s about nourishing wellness.”

Huh.

What if we asked ourselves what we needed to nourish our wellness when we were choosing what we wanted to eat?

What if exercise wasn’t about getting a “bikini body,” but instead about nourishing our health, our joy, our vitality that exists inside each of us?

Since our conversation, my entire outlook about how I nourish myself has completely shifted. The proof of this is in the silly hula-hooping selfies I share every week in my stories on Instagram.

I now eat to promote wellness. I now move to promote joy.

And I feel all the more radiant as a result.
