vicarious delight (91/100)

Alex is at Junior Week at her school this week: it’s when the school sets aside a few days for the juniors to be totally immersed in preparing for college applications. They practice writing essays, they practice college interviews, they begin filling out applications. (In normal years, they also visit the campuses of local schools, but you know … [insert coronavirus sad trombone here]. It’s a pretty big deal.

All day long, she’s been texting me: “Mom! All I have to write is my essay!” “Mom! I think I’m going to apply to X school!” “Mom! Some of the alumni of our school are going to be talking to us about what college is like!” Even though we’re only communicating through text, my girl is lit. up.

And this, during a week of a ton of work stress, is my light: watching my kid get excited about all the potential the world has in store for her. It’s truly a wondrous thing, man.
