this was a good week
This was a good week! Here’s why:
• Today is the last day of Alex’s school until next year, Marcus is winding down his work for the year as well, and we busted out the first Santa’s Slays of the season. It’s Christmastime.
• Here are 8 ways to lighten your home up during winter. * starts combing the internet for a disco ball *
• Cave drawings have recently been found in Indonesia that date back to 43,900 years ago — "currently the oldest pictorial record of storytelling and the earliest figurative artwork in the world." Incredible.
• Go ahead, have the pie. You’re worth it.
• Have you guys found the Happy Broadcast on Instagram yet? A beautifully illustrated counter-hate and counter-fear project that features positive news from around the world. All good, all the time.
• I’m taking some time off. The truth is, friends, I’m exhausted, and feeling like I’m clawing my way to the end of the year by my fingernails. So this is the last This Was A Good Week post for 2019 (and last blog post for the year as well) — I’m going to try to spend the next two weeks focusing on family and friends and rest and recharging. I think rest is a radical act of self-care these days, and I’m going to try to model it. I hope you’ll be able to have some down time for yourself, as well.
• And finally, for today’s soundtrack: I share this song every Christmas season. And I’m finding myself particularly moved by the lyrics of David Bowie’s countermelody this year. Click here or the image below to watch and listen.
On that sweet note, Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, happy holidays to everyone, and may you all have a wonderful new year. Heartfelt love from our home to yours.
See you next year.
