this was a good week

This was a good week!  Here's why:

•  An old friend came to spend a couple of nights with us, I had long phone/Skype conversations with two far-away chums, and yesterday was Alex's last day of 7th grade!  Celebrations all round.

•  I am mesmerized by these 10-second portraits.  So much so, in fact, I attempted one of my own.

•  The magic of colourization of photos.  I'm always intrigued by this -- I love the original black-and-whites, but there's something about the colour versions that make them feel more ... real.

•  I feel the need to buy a large packet of googly eyes for the summer coming on ...

•  The history and cultural significance surrounding the headwrap of the African diaspora.  Gorgeous images.

•  The next time I have a spare $50,000 or so lying around, our family is so going to go to this resort in the Maldives.  Incredible.  (And if you have 25 minutes, watch the video on that post.  It's hard to believe a location as beautiful as that even exists.)

•  Finally, for today's soundtrack (and partially inspired by those Maldives photos), I'll take you there by the Staple Singers.  A girl can dream, can't she?
