someone turned 51 today (63/100)
Everyone knows that on your birthday, you’re allowed cake for breakfast. I made a cake, but I forgot to buy birthday candles.
So he had to blow out a tea light, instead.
We still sang happy birthday, though.
Marcus isn’t allowed to have chocolate anymore, for health reasons. (Aside: he’s not allowed to have chocolate, coffee, or spicy foods. Naturally, Marcus’ favourite things in life are chocolate, coffee and spicy foods.) So for his birthday, I made him a vanilla bean cake with white chocolate chips and white chocolate ganache. (Because, come on: white chocolate is not chocolate.)
I used my usual throw-down birthday cake recipe, substituting the cake mix for French vanilla and the pudding for white chocolate/vanilla and the chips for white chocolate chips. And it worked a treat. So. good. (Seriously, if chocolate isn’t your jam, do what I did with this cake. It is the best cake you will ever make, it is better than any cake your friends make, and you will be famous in your circle for it.)
Happy birthday, Marcus. Wishing you 51 more amazing years. I love you.
Soundtrack: Take California by Propellerheads. When I was dating Marcus, he kept this song in constant rotation. So I can’t hear it without thinking of him and the south coast of England.
