This past weekend, I photographed Alex’s senior portraits. She’s been excited about getting them for years,. When she was about 12 years old, she accompanied me to a shoot where I photographed a friend’s daughter.

“When I’m a senior, can we hire a photographer for my photos?”

I looked at her like she’d grown a second head.

“Lookie-here, sporty,” I said. “I’ve been dreaming of the day I’ll be shooting these images for you your entire life. I’m afraid that’s the downside of having a mom who loves her camera, kid — you’re stuck with my portraits.”

She looked a little disappointed, but she said nothing.
