#augustbreak2016: august was ... (five faves: august 2016)

(one) The month began with the absolute perfect family vacation to the island of Aruba.  Our time together in this breathtaking location could not possibly have been better.

Today is the last day of #augustbreak2016, and since the prompt is "August was ..." it seems the perfect opportunity to share my favourite five photographs I took this month.  When I share my favourite photographs every month, some months, obviously, are better than others, but this August was particularly glorious.

(two)  So. Much. Journaling.  During the break, I spent a lot of time going analog -- it was really therapeutic.

(three)  My friends Lauren and Margaret eloped, and I insisted on crashing their elopement so I could photograph it for them. Luckily for me, they graciously accepted.  It was so affirming, man.  Love always wins.

(four)  Two wonderful high school seniors invited me to take their senior portraits, so we woke up early one morning and met at Rice University to do so.  Another lovely, affirming day.

(five)  Alex began 7th grade, the first year of middle school for her.  Also, for the first time, she's playing a team sport -- she's on the JV volleyball team.  Go wildcats!

I didn't realize how much I was going to enjoy posting a photograph a day, while minimizing how much I wrote.  It made me think about this space in a whole new, different way: why it's different for me than Instagram, how I use my words here, that sort of thing.  I don't know what this is going to mean going forward, but whatever it means, I'm glad to be back.

Hope you all had an amazing month as well, friends.

Soundtrack:  Ride by Twenty-One Pilots, one of Alex's favourite bands.
