love thursday: wat matrs
Earlier this week, Alex drew a picture of a flower and the sun and the sky, and up in the corner of the picture, she wrote:
Love matrs, no matr wat.
"Alex, does that say 'love matters, no matter what?'"
"Yes."
"Where did you hear that?"
"Nowhere," she said, looking somewhat confused.
"No, I'm not saying you're wrong, honey. It's just that you're so right. Did you hear this at school or something? Did you read it somewhere?"
"No," she started laughing. "I just made it up."
I haven't been able to stop thinking about this. Lately, I've been really so impatient, for a variety of reasons -- and even as I stew, I know I'm blowing things out of proportion. And, of course, since Alex and Marcus are the ones who are closest to me, they've borne the brunt of my mood. I've been thinking that I need to start taking a step back, take a deep breath, and reflect on something -- anything -- to help me calm down. And here, I think Alex gave me my new mantra.
Love matrs, no matr wat.
Happy Love Thursday, everyone.

Song: Excuses, by Morning Benders, as performed in the video below (and shared with me by the always-lovely Laurie Smithwick). I love it when friends come together to make music.
