random weekend thoughts: mother's day edition
From the bouquet Alex and Marcus bought me. Photographed with Nikon D300, 60mm micro lens.
I spent a surprising amount of time over the weekend reflecting on what a great week last week was for our little house: Alex had both her ballet recital and her gymnastics showcase, Marcus got some really great news at work, I finally turned in my book proposal (more on this below), I caught up with some local friends I haven't seen in a while and a good friend from Trinidad who we haven't seen for a couple of years is staying with us over the next few days. It's amazing that all of this happened in the same 7-day period, and for this, I'm so very, very grateful. We're each trying to make sure we take the time to recognize this good -- when happy comes, it can sometimes feel fleeting, so we're making the most of it in the moment.
Speaking of making the most of it: so yes, the book proposal has been submitted to the publisher, and now I wait. In the spirit of being in the moment, I'm working hard on not focusing on what the possible outcomes might be, but instead enjoying the accomplishment I'm feeling for actually getting off my duff, working really hard, putting something together, and turning it in -- it's certainly more than I've ever affirmatively done toward getting published, and it feels like a nice big leap. Nothing may come of it (although I fervently hope something does); however, just taking this first big step feels like an achievement, and I'm trying hard to stay present and enjoy it.
Also, and related: fingers crossed.
Further: is there anything better than being woken up to breakfast in bed, complete with mushroom omelet, a cup of tea, a mimosa, a handmade card and being left alone to watch HGTV while you eat? I think not. This morning, I luxuriated in my bed, ate my breakfast, lingered over my mimosa and watched Yard Crashers, then when that was over, I got up, took a leisurely shower, and eased my way into the land of the living. Best. Mother's Day. Ever.
I'm clearly gonna have to come with it for Father's Day this year.
Hope you all have had a great weekend.
Update: I almost forgot -- I have a few events coming up over the next few months, so I decided to update my News page so that I could let you all know what's coming up on my calendar (in addition to what's already occurred), in the event that you might be in the neighbourhood. Be sure to check it out. If we do ever happen to be in the same place at the same time, I'd love if you come up and tap me on the shoulder. Better still, let's have a cup of tea. Ooh, or a refreshing grown-up beverage!
