love thursday: everyday love

My heart-shaped "diamond" ring, given to me by two nieces for my birthday a couple of years ago.

As much as I love the holidays, I always feel a sense of relief from returning to our routine.  There's something so comforting to going back to our mundane, everyday lives, and as a result, this week I feel closer than ever to Marcus and Alex.  I love ...

... sitting at our new kitchen table and having simple dinners of tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches (Heinz tomato soup, of course, the Brit in our family would have it no other way), and Alex teaching me that the best way to eat a grilled cheese sandwich is to first dip it into the soup (who knew?) ...

... on cold nights, making fires in our fireplace (sometimes Marcus makes them, sometimes I do), and calmly and lovingly reminding him that while he makes a good fire, it's no where near as good as the fires I can make (it's true, regardless of what he might tell you) ...

... returning to my bedtime routine of snuggling with Alex for about 30 minutes after lights out, where our conversations can range from the deep (a discussion of whether we're actually alive, or just drawings made by God) to the ridiculous (singing our special version of holiday songs, replacing every noun with the word "bumsie" -- Trini for "backside").

Sometimes all it takes is noticing the little acts of everyday love to realize you have a good life, you know?
